    Our Parent-Child Interaction Therapy Clinic

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a remarkable program that enhances the quality of the parent-child relationship by teaching parents and caregivers specific skills to cultivate a nurturing environment; and addressing significant disruptive behavior.

This evidence-based treatment focuses on two primary areas: developing positive parent-child interaction patterns and improving the child's behavior. The therapy is unique in its approach as it involves the therapist coaching the parents in real-time as they interact with their child. PCIT is not just about addressing challenging behaviors but rather fostering an enduring and enriching relationship between you and your child. By participating in this therapy, parents can expect to see significant improvements in their child's behavior and a stronger, more positive bond with their child.

    How Does PCIT Work?

PCIT is a short–term treatment, and families who participate in this treatment model are typically seen for 4-6 months.

The duration of treatment is dependent on your child’s behavior, treatment plan goals, and your family’s progress.

During the first phase of treatment - Child-Directed Interaction (CDI), caregivers learn, and practice skills needed to decrease attention-seeking behavior, improve the parent-child relationship, and increase positive behaviors.

During the second phase of treatment - Parent-Directed Interaction (PDI), parents learn to manage their child’s behavior through a consistent, concise, and predictable discipline procedure.

We offer Parent-Child Interaction Therapy virtually.

Internet-based Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (I-PCIT) also follows the two-phase structure of Child-Directed Interaction (CDI) and Parent-Directed Interaction (PDI). However, the entire therapy process is conducted remotely via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform. This includes live coaching sessions where therapists observe parent-child interaction through a video call, offering real-time guidance and feedback to parents. The effectiveness of I-PCIT has been corroborated by several studies, showing significant improvement in child behavior, parenting skills, and the overall quality of the parent-child relationship. It is a promising alternative for families seeking the benefits of PCIT without the need for a physical commute to a therapy center.
