
Dr. Heather Makover is a New York-based clinical psychologist who specializes in working with children, adolescents, young adults, and parents. Dr. Makover provides evidence-based treatment to address challenges related to anxiety, OCD, mood, relationships, self-esteem, trauma, parenting, and developmental transitions.
Dr. Makover integrates a variety of treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness-based interventions, into her work to meet each person’s unique needs. She is passionate about providing supportive, individualized, and validating care to help individuals and families live meaningful lives that are aligned with their goals and values.
Dr. Makover graduated from Williams College with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and art history, and she obtained a Master’s degree and a Ph.D in clinical psychology from Temple University under the mentorship of Dr. Philip Kendall. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Washington School of Medicine/Seattle Children’s Hospital and her post-doctoral fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Irving Medical Center (NYP-CUIMC).
Before joining TMB Psychological Services, Dr. Makover worked as a clinical psychologist at the NYP-CUIMC Youth Anxiety Center with a focus on providing care to youth, young adults, and parents. She held a clinical faculty position at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Makover also previously worked as a consultant editor and program developer for a specialty pediatric anxiety/OCD outpatient treatment organization. Dr. Makover has co-authored numerous research papers, book chapters, workshops, and training programs on interventions for youth anxiety throughout her career.
